Tips for Creating a Welcoming Fall Front Door

Autumn is upon us, and it’s one of the most beautiful times of the year. From bright foliage to the bountiful harvest of pumpkins and squashes, people can’t help but to appreciate the natural beauty this time of year brings and want to display it throughout their homes.

A great way to bring the warmth of fall to any home is by decorating the front door. Whether you have a small front porch or a large space to sit in and enjoy, we’ve compiled a list of seasonal staples anyone can use to make a welcoming fall front door.

1. Pumpkins

An obvious and inexpensive option, there is perhaps nothing that screams “fall” more than a pile of pumpkins. Some like to stick with the traditional round orange pumpkins, but you can mix it up! You can use white pumpkins for a neutral farmhouse look. If you prefer more colors, add in some pops of green and orange. Grab different shapes and sizes to add visual interest. Pumpkins can be so pretty, so head to the farmer’s market and pick up the ones that stand out to you.

2. Fall Foliage

There are so many options when it comes to incorporating fall foliage into your front porch decor. Mums are in season and fresh blooms can be found at the farmers market, grocery stores, and home improvement stores. Sunflowers are another bright, seasonal favorite that make for beautiful photos. Another inexpensive idea is to grab some corn stalks from a farm stand! These can be tied to a fence, light post, or placed by the door.

3. Wreath or Welcoming Door Sign

Homes instantly become more inviting with a wreath or sign on the door to greet guests. They add the perfect friendly touch. Much like with pumpkins or mums, wreaths come in endless options depending on your taste. You can also find great wood signs to hang on the door, or stand next to it, to welcome visitors.

4. Cozy Touches

If you have a covered front porch or even an overhang with enough space to place a stool or small chair, another great item to add to your front porch as the cold months approach is a throw blanket or decorative pillow. These warm textiles will make the space feel cozy.

5. Fun props

You can also add in a few fun props, some you might even have around the house! Lanterns with candles, a pair of rainboots, or a watering can are some simple ideas.

Decorating your front porch for the fall is a great way to add curb appeal for a low price tag. None of these options are terribly expensive, and you can use any or all of them to create a space that matches your taste. Whether you have a large wraparound porch or just a step, you can add elements to make your home more welcoming during this season of thanksgiving.
