Top 5 Reasons to Build Your Home in Maryland

Are you thinking of building or buying your next house on the East Coast, and considering Maryland as your potential home? There are many reasons to live in Maryland beyond the fabulous crab cakes, and we would know. As Marylanders who build homes throughout the state, it goes without saying that we have a deep affection for where we live and work.

To keep it simple, we are going to break down the 5 most important reasons to choose the Old Line State:

History

Maryland is full of historic landmarks and American history. Annapolis was the capital of the United States in 1783 and 1784. Francis Scott Key penned “The Star Spangled Banner” here. Harriet Tubman was born here and led many slaves to freedom. Frederick Douglass was a Maryland native as well. John Wilkes Booth travelled through Southern Maryland after assassinating President Abraham Lincoln. You can find many historic sites, ghost tours, and other landmarks to visit throughout our state.

Natural Beauty

If you love the outdoors, chances are you will love living in Maryland. Nearly half of the state is covered in trees, and there are so many natural features to love: the Chesapeake Bay, sandy beaches, islands, marshes, coves, rivers and creeks. The Blue Ridge Mountains and Appalachian Mountains also run through Maryland.

Diverse Culture

With it’s rural areas as well as urban sections, and often considered both a Northern State and a Southern State, Maryland has a very diverse and accepting culture. There are many different races, ethnicities, and values amongst Marylanders.

Proximity to other cities

Maryland’s largest city (and only “large” city) is Baltimore. This is a great location with just a 30-minute drive to Washington D.C. and an hour’s drive from Philedelphia. Beyond just Baltimore, Maryland is in close proximity to the D.C. metro region, making most of the areas in the state good locations for commuters to live.

Economy

Maryland has an excellent economy and many jobs. Much of this is due to the Government and government contractors. If you know someone in Maryland, chances are they either work for the government or have close ties. Professionals seeking employment on the East Coast should look no further than Maryland.

Moving is tough, especially to new places, but there are some pretty great reasons to call Maryland home. Rich in history, natural beauty, and culture, and boasting a great economy, Maryland is so much more than crab cakes.
